Listening

Active listening tips with patients and their families during my interaction with them and especially during the anesthetic interview.
Mental preparation- have your entire focus be on what the speaker is saying (not on your response to what is being said. You can't completely get what is being said if you are finishing some else's sentences in your head)
-Resist the temptation to speak. Rapport and trust are best gained by actively listening.
-have a listening posture
-avoid finishing others sentences
-never interrupt even if it's to agree
-avoid making jokes?
