I have been caught thinking and believing this many times and must guard myself against it. It is not what you do that makes you who you are. It is easy to talk to people especially an acquaintance about what they "do." But it is much harder to skip talking about their profession and get deeper. On a hike to Virgin Falls with Uncle George and the Jordans as everyone was becoming aquatinted Uncle George asked Tim, "Tell me who you are without telling me what you do." A good question, a tough one, one I was glad I was not asked in the moment as I struggled to find an answer.... Which lead me to see maybe I was believing that myth more than I thought...
