For my birthday Ryan gave me Scary Close by Donald Miller. As he digs into relationships I've been critiquing, evaluating, and seeing how my relationships can grow to be healthier and stronger. In chapter 11 The Risk of Being Careful Don makes a list "to remind myself to never go back to being careful." Here's my list and the freedom that it will give if I choose to live these out.
-I am willing to look dumb and silly in front of others.
-I am willing to sound dumb.
-I am willing to not try to justify my actions for the approval of others
-I admit to others when I don't know what to do
-I am willing to be confrontational and not back down in an argument
-I am willing to engage even if there is a big risk that I could lose.
-I am willing to speak out when I see that something is not right or someone is being treated wrong even if I blunder my words
-When I mess up I am willing and readily admit to those around me that I was wrong.
